OUR PROCESS Hematech's goal is to produce human antibodies in cows. Normally human antibodies are found in human blood to help fight infection. They continuously survey the body looking for foreign invaders and eliminate them.
Prion protein is a natural cellular protein that can become misfolded into infectious particles and cause bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE, or "mad cow disease") and a lethal variant of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (vCJD) in humans.
Whether developing treatments for antibiotic-resistant infections or producing new drugs to help defend against bio-terrorism, Hematech, Inc. is utilizing the latest advances in technology to help fight diseases.
OUR PRODUCTS The pharmaceutical industry currently uses human blood serum to gather the supply of human antibodies necessary in developing disease-fighting drugs.
The agreement was signed by Katsushiko Asano, president of Pharmaceutical Division for Kirin, and James M. Barton, CEO for Hematech, among other parties, and means that Hematech has become a subsidiary of Kirin.
